Go Beyond Traditional Evangelism Tools

Are you tired of traditional evangelism tools? Read on for some excellent recommendations of unique and effective evangelism tools. They are so winsome that even children can use them.

Have you ever noticed how Jesus started the conversation with the Samaritan woman who came to draw water at a well? After asking her for a drink, he provoked her curiosity by saying she should have asked him for living water. Jesus knew this woman was interested in water, so that’s where he started the conversation. By asking the right question about an obvious concern, Jesus obtained permission to speak with the woman about her salvation.

Traditional evangelism tools bypass the permission phase. Much Christian evangelism lacks the creativity and commitment to speak to people in ways that pique their curiosity and obtain their permission to speak. The woman at the well wanted to know more. She became a seeker.

Evangelicals should be provoking people to ask about the living water. An effective, fresh approach to Christian evangelism will touch people where they care the most. Do you think Jesus enjoyed awakening the Samaritan woman’s curiosity? With a little imagination and the right tools, Christian evangelism can be fun.

The new evangelism tool I’ve been alluding to began emerging when a friend donated her time to design a winsome, colorful business card for me (Carey Kinsolving). At the time, I had started to make Kids Talk About God, the syndicated column I write, available by complimentary e-mail subscription on our website.

I’ll never forget the response from a mother I met in an office when I gave her one of my colorful cards that contained the Kids Talk About God (KTAG) website address. When I told her she could receive a complimentary e-mail subscription for her children to the KTAG column, I was amazed at her gratitude. This wasn’t like passing out gospel tracts or knocking on doors to invite people to church.

As I continued to hand out business cards with complimentary e-mail subscriptions, I rediscovered something that most parents and grandparents know intuitively. They want their children or grandchildren to have a relationship with the Lord even if they themselves are spiritually cold or lukewarm.

Since this insight, I’ve been adding new items to our online portfolio. In 2003, I signed a contract with an ABC affiliate TV station to produce a series of TV spots unlike any you’ve ever seen. I asked hundreds of children questions about God, life and the Bible. We now have 60 Kid TV Interviews streaming on our website for all to enjoy.

The other streaming video in the online portfolio features an 11-year-old girl who won a trip around the world visiting missionaries. Children and families can enjoy more than two hours of the Mission Explorers Streaming Video. This series has been used in more than 2,500 churches to introduce children to the work of missionaries.

In 2004, we added the KTAG Online Art Gallery. This unique gallery features children’s art that illustrates Bible verses. Click and print your favorite pictures to decorate your children’s rooms or to use as memory cards for Bible verses.

Our newest online addition is the Kids Color Me Bible. This unique book features children’s Bible stories in the Easy-To-Read translation. Each chapter includes children’s illustrative art, children’s answers to a question, a place for children to write their own answers to the featured question and a full page from the Heaven Herald newspaper for them to draw their illustrative art. Again, it’s click and print to your heart’s content!

We can personalize the entire online portfolio described above. You can offer our portfolio to your community by letting us create a sponsored web page and business cards for you. The business card will contain the address that takes visitors to your sponsored web page. Our sponsored web pages and cards can be effective evangelism tools for individuals, families, churches, Christian schools, non-profit organizations and businesses.

The power of this approach over traditional evangelism methods is fourfold:

1) You can touch people where they care the most—their children.

2) You can create a positive first impression by offering the children of your community our valuable, free content.

3) You can measure the results by monitoring the online traffic report of how many people are visiting your sponsored web page.

4) If you have an e-mail newsletter or want to start one, it’s an effective, economical way to communicate with a lot of people at once. We can set up a link on your sponsored web page to gather names and e-mail addresses.

"When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star
which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came
and stood over where the young Child was" (Matthew 2:9).

Wise men still seek Him.
