Adults Should Memorize
Famous Bible Verses, Too

I would encourage you to be extra-diligent about memorizing famous Bible verses, especially if you have children in your life. When you have inspirational Bible quotes on the tip of your tongue, you have the power of God’s Word at a moment’s notice in any situation.

This is a great example to kids about how much the Bible can and should be part of our everyday, routine lives. When they see that you go out of your way to make time to memorize famous Bible verses, they will realize how important it is.

A key benefit of Bible verse memorization is the way God’s Word shapes your life. Your faith grows and your integrity increases. You become a better role model for the kids in your life, and are better able to help them get to know God for themselves.

Now, I realize that it’s more challenging for adults to commit things to memory. But, let’s just dismiss that excuse, OK? It just means we have to work a little harder at it than our children do! Here are some tips to help you squeeze in some time on your memory verses:

Tip #1: Use visual aids.

Visit the Kids Talk About God Art Gallery, and you’ll find dozens of ready-to-print memory cards containing famous Bible verses. A child artist illustrated each scripture. Because of this, each memory card has a built-in visual aid that is especially appealing.

Tip #2: Place the visual aids where you’ll see them frequently.

Make several memory cards of the verse you’re working on. Put one on your pillow and one on your alarm clock, so you’ll see your verse first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

Put one of your cards on the dashboard in the car. When you’re waiting at a red light or stuck in traffic, study your verse. Keep another card in your pocket or purse and refer to it while standing in line at the bank or grocery store. Put one on the fridge. Everyone in the family should see THAT one!

Stick one on the bathroom mirror and memorize while brushing your teeth. Type your verse into a screensaver, so that when you’re not using your computer, the bible verse is scrolling across the monitor. If that’s too much of a pain, a sticky-note on the monitor should work, too!

Tip #3: Have an accountability partner.

Work on the same verse your spouse and/or kids are working on. Make sure everyone has their inspirational bible quotes on memory cards from the Kids Talk About God Art Gallery. Quiz each other at a pre-determined time, or surprise each other with pop quizzes. Don’t cheat by looking at the fridge or your computer!

Tip #4: Be sure to pray for God’s help in memorizing Bible verses.

Ask him to show you what he wants you to learn from each verse and how to apply it to your life. Ask God to help your family with their verses, too.
