RGV Children's Arts Festival 2014-15 WINNER Announced

The 2015 RGV Children's Arts Festival Awards Event took place on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Art Village on Main Event Center in McAllen, Texas. All 20 finalists assembled with their families to celebrate the major accomplishment of making it to the finals and to hear the long-awaited announcement. Each of the finalists received four passes for a Dolphin Watch or Eco Tour cruise with Breakaway Cruises at South Padre Island, as well as a free ice cream cake from Dairy Queen!

Vivianna Rangel, 12, won $50 for her third-place finish. Second-place entrant Tiffany Zimny-Garcia, 8, won $100.

Then at last the first-place winner was announced: 10-year-old Lauren Powell of Harlingen. Lauren was so shocked when she heard her name called that her inner dialogue went something like this: "That's my name, right?" Her friend next to her had to prompt her to go up to the stage!

The grand prize included a week-long vacation this summer for the winner and immediate family (up to five people total) at Bar Lazy J Guest Ranch in Colorado, $1000 to help cover travel expenses, a hand-crafted (by Yoli Cantu of McAllen Stained Glass), stained-glass version of one of her winning entries AND two scholarships for stained-glass lessons at McAllen Stained Glass.

Congratulations to Lauren and all the amazing finalists!!
