Sixteen Valley children and their families gathered on April 30 at the Art Village on Main Event Center in McAllen, all hoping to win a week-long vacation for their families at Coulter Lake Guest Ranch in Rifle, Colorado or Medicine Bow Lodge & Adventure Guest Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming. This year for the first time, the RGV Children’s Arts Festival awarded two dude ranch family vacations, one to a child in each of two age groups.
Lendsa Lozano, marketing director for Lynn Lee Dairy Queens throughout the Valley, announced the winner of the younger division (kindergarten through third grade): "The 2016 RGV Children’s Arts Festival winner of a week at Coulter Lake Guest Ranch in Rifle, Colorado is Danella Prinkey-Vizcarra!”
Six-year-old Danella was so excited she broke into song. It was her second song of the night. She sang her first spontaneous song, “Peter and John Went to Pray,” when Carey Kinsolving, festival co-chair, interviewed her in front of the audience of finalists’ families.
For about 15 minutes after Danella learned she had won, her excitement took the form of jumping up and down. Danella entered the Valleywide festival through Covenant Christian Academy, where she is a student. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey S. Prinkey of Edinburg.
Danella won a week-long, all-inclusive vacation for her family at Coulter Lake Guest Ranch in Colorado, along with $600 for travel expenses. She also got to keep a beautifully-framed, fused-glass rendering of her winning artwork created by Yoli Cantu of McAllen Stained Glass. Ms. Cantu also provided a scholarship for each winner to bring three friends and enjoy a class in designing and making fused glass art.
All 16 finalists received passes for four people to enjoy a Dolphin Watch or Eco Tour cruise courtesy of Breakaway Cruises at South Padre Island and a coupon for a free ice cream cake at any of the Lynn Lee Dairy Queens throughout the Valley.
Congratulations to Danella and all the incredible finalists!
